One of the greatest college football traditions takes place in New Orleans every year when the Sugar Bowl, the second oldest bowl game in the country, comes to town. As per tradition, this year’s AllState Sugar Bowl will host the SEC champion (unless otherwise involved in a national championship game) and another highly ranked opponent.

History

Since the game’s founding in the 1930s, the Sugar Bowl has been a key player in promoting amateur sports, engaging the community, and sparking economic growth. Many decades later, the event has morphed into a Louisiana New Years tradition, attracting large crowds and plenty of post-game festivities.

Special Events

While the bowl game is the highlight of the New Year festivities, the AllState Sugar Bowl hosts a variety of other fun events, including:

Fan Fest
December 30 from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. and December 31 from 12 p.m. – 12 a.m.

Fan Fest features pre-game celebrations, football-themed activities, pep rallies, marching bands, mascots, and more. The fest is located at Jackson Square.

New Year’s Eve Parade
December 31 at 3:00 pm

The New Year’s Eve Mardi Gras-style parade will kick off at the Elysian Fields Avenue and Decatur Street at approximately 3 p.m., then travel through the French Quarter to  Canal Street. The parade will pass iconic spots like The Old U.S Mint, The French Market, Café du Monde, and Jackson Square, and stops at Fan Fest!

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest
December 31

Take part in the Central Time Zone New Year’s Countdown to kick off the Tricentennial! Live music performances, celebrity guests, and more will be featured in Jackson Square.

Team Pep Rallies
