Garden District Hotels in New Orleans

Garden District New Orleans Hotels

Two and a half miles up-river from the CBD and French Quarter, nestled under oak trees but visible from the historic St. Charles Avenue streetcar line, is one of the oldest neighborhoods in New Orleans. Originally a destination for Irish and German immigrants outside the old city, the Garden District neighborhood consists of historic and beautiful architectural homes, quaint boutique businesses, local cafes, and hotels.

With famous residents like Archie Manning, Sandra Bullock and more, the Garden District neighborhood allows for scenic walks, guided tours, bike rides, and shopping to keep your days busy, while local restaurants and bars offer entertainment at night.

While walking on St. Charles Avenue do not be surprised if you see trees covered in beads providing the decor and ambiance that you can only see in New Orleans. St. Charles Avenue is a main artery of the Mardi Gras parade routes, and float riders often toss beads that get stuck in the sprawling oak tree branches. It is not unusual for these bead trees to stay decorated for months after Fat Tuesday; residents are accustomed to the look.

You can walk along St. Charles Avenue further up-river, or ride the streetcar to visit more Uptown neighborhoods featuring unique architecture, gorgeous homes, cafes, boutiques, and parks. Discover more attractions waiting in Uptown New Orleans.

If Garden District shopping and dining tires you out, explore some neighborhood history in the Irish Channel and the Lower Garden District, where Irish and German immigrants worshipped across the street from each other in the 1840’s. Learn more about the many New Orleans churches with architectural and historical significance.

If you are looking for an urban retreat from the busy French Quarter and bustling Downtown area, New Orleans Garden District hotels are only a short and scenic streetcar ride away!
